Last month Fiona Coyle took over the role of End FGM EU Director. Hopefully many of you will have the pleasure to meet and even work with Fiona but in the meantime, we thought you might like to get to know the new director – what motivates her and why she is excited to join End FGM EU.

EU Study Visits
In 2018, End FGM EU is continuing to carry out the successful series of Study Visits for EU institutions entitled "The reality of working against FGM in the field" aimed at bridging the gap between the EU institutions and local realities in EU member states concerning FGM. On Friday 18 May the secretariat joined by MEP Julie Ward (S&D) and Véronique Pain from the European Commission (DG JUST) to the United Kingdom, where we had a meeting at the Home Office on UK policies around FGM, we exchanged with the Sunflower clinic’s team on services for survivors and visited our member FORWARD UK who showed us their engagement and grassroots work with youth, women, communities and professionals.
End FGM EU at the European Development Days 2018
This year, The European Development Days is placing its focus on 'Women and Girls at the Forefront of Sustainable Development'. End FGM EU & GIZ ( Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH  ) have teamed up to present a joint panel on 'Building Bridges between regions and people to end FGM'.

End FGM Ambassadors Meeting in Brussels Screening of 'The Cut: Exploring FGM' (with Fatma Naib)
End FGM EU welcomed its End FGM Ambassadors back to Brussels for an annual review meeting of the Ambassador programme. The Ambassadors are individuals with a personal link to the issue of FGM who have the passion and commitment to speak out against the practice. JOIN US June 5th for an unmissable screening of the Peabody Award winning documentary 'The Cut: Exploring FGM' followed by a Q&A session with documentary correspondent Fatma M Naib. AIDOS Updates Ihmisoikeusliito Updates
AIDOS is implementing a project to contribute to the protection and support of refugees and asylum seekers/survivors of SGBV in Italy, by increasing awareness on rights and services available and improving the capacity of the reception centres’ staff to respond SGBV (including FGM). The Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health is releasing an Action Plan for the Prevention of Female Genital Mutilation/Circumcision of Girls and Women 2018-2020, with the Finnish League for Human Rights (FLHR) as part of the steering group for this Action Plan.

World Health Assembly: Geneva launch of Lancet-Guttmacher SRHR Commission Report
The event, which took place on Monday, May 21, was to build upon and carry forward the momentum of the recent global launch (9 May, Johannesburg) of the Guttmacher-Lancet Commission on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), which was announced in September 2015 with the goal of developing a bold, comprehensive and actionable agenda for SRHR over the next 15 years and beyond. Ultimately, the Commission aims to encourage the adoption of policies and programs that support SRHR for all at the global, regional and country levels.
